Re. Transition Update - Administration

Effective Wednesday October 3/07, Chief Chris Tom assumed acting Administrator and Health Manager job duties at Tsartlip First Nation. Chief Chris will be responsible for the following duties/responsibilities (on a temporary basis) until successful candidates have been selected through a competitive recruitment process for the two (2) positions – Administrator and Health Manager:

Major duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited, to -

• Recruitment, development and compensation of all staff;
• Ensuring adherence to policies and related regulations or procedures;
• Ensuring Council’s decisions are implemented;
• Working with program/department heads and their staff members to oversee the smooth running and operation of all Tsartlip First Nation programs and services; ensuring that programs and services are administered within budget;
• Supervising administrative and program/department staff in the performance of their job duties; and
• Planning, organizing, directing, implementing and evaluating the delivery of health and community services.

During this brief period of time, Chief Chris Tom will not be receiving a salary or additional wages for his duties as acting Administrator and Health Manager at Tsartlip First Nation.

As stated in our previous verbal and written updates to staff, Tsartlip First Nation is currently undergoing a period of transition in the way it delivers programs and services to its community members. Tsartlip First Nation Chief & Council must meet the demands of this transition by ensuring that they have the essential governance/administration processes in place to deliver identified programs. In addition to providing management advisory support to the Tsartlip First Nation Chief & Council, Turtle Island Consulting Services Inc. will be providing technical support to Chief Chris in his roles as interim Administrator and Health Manager.
