Community Benefits
Lease Fee
The first phase of the project will provide a lease fee payable to Tsartlip First Nation of Five million, three hundred thousand dollars.
Water Improvements
The development will provide the following benefits to the community at no cost to Tsartlip a 12” water line installation will provide additional fire flow into the reserve valued at $450,000.00
Increased Sewer Treatment $1,800,000
The development will buy in to the Tsawout Treatment Plant, at no cost to Tsartlip, and provide the Tsartlip Reserve 1,250 additional housing sewage treatment ability for the future use of the Tsartlip people.
Road Improvements $250,000
A portion of Tsartlip Drive will be paved with curbs and sidewalks installed. Boat Ramp Road will be paved, widened, curbed with sidewalks installed.
Additional Parking $350,000
The Boat Launch Parking area will be paved and striped, and the Soccer Field area will be paved and striped.
Boat Launch and Main Dock $200,000
Two hundred thousand dollars will go to remove and replace the two existing concrete launch pads and upgrade and expand the main dock area.
Housing
The new 1,250 sewer treatment hook ups – gifted to Tsartlip, will allow for new housing units on reserve.
Making housing, for band members, totally independent of the federal government housing program.
Economic Development
The focus of the Central Saanich Municipality is to provide development in Brentwood Bay Making Arbutus Shores a prime tourist location in Brentwood, close to the ferries, Butchart Gardens, and Victoria.
The future expansion for Economic Development for Tsartlip as it pertains to the existing sewage treatment agreement from the Central Saanich Municipality is limited to 350 units, prepaid by Indian & Northern Affairs.
This small amount of capacity does not provide enough growth for the reserve.
